Wikus Roodt, a proud, strict but loving father of two is almost like the Phantom of Restaurants. He moves swiftly and meticulously backstage. He orchestrates and organises everything in and outside his restaurants. Nothing escapes him and no one dares to question him. He is 100% present, 100% feared and 100% respected by everyone that knows his work ethics and passion for anything culinary. He has no aspiration to be popular. His main aim is to please his customers with the food he makes and if you don’t like him for that, he will help you find the door.

His sister Anna smiles when asked if South Africans can expect the “Gordon Ramsay” experience when visiting? She assures me that there are definitely some major parallels when it comes to Wikus and Gordon especially when it comes to his kitchen. He expects everyone to bring their A-game.

Wikus always knew that he wanted to study culinary arts and he hardly took a day off since he opened his first restaurant.

The apple does not fall far from the tree as Dad Johan Roodt is a workaholic and a well known financial planner. Mom Elize Coetzee Prinsloo is a qualified social worker with her own practice in Pretoria. They are both whole heartedly invested in the success of the five family restaurants.

Sister Anna Roodt is more involved in her own doggy restaurant and boutique next door to the Kremetart Bistro and younger brother Eric, like his Father has a love for finances and is more invested in Immanuel brokers, the other family business.

They opened the Windmill Restaurant at Jasmyn almost 13 years ago, then the Wafelhuis and Opstal also situated on the Jasmyn premises in Hartbeespoort.

The New Kremetart Bistro is situated next to Landsmeer, opposite Jasmyn and was a lifelong dream of Wikus. He invested everything to fulfil this modern and upmarket concept, catering to the more discerning eater.

Like the three other Restaurants at Jasmyn they are mostly supported by tourists on weekends but they are positive that if locals have been there once, they will return to support them.

They catered a few small events in the downstairs restaurant but plan to host larger events in the upstairs venue. At the moment the restaurant hours are 8 to 5pm.

The group venue can accommodate at least 100 guests so if you ever need a venue of that size, this will be a place to consider. The spectacular view will take your guests’ breath away.
