“Too many South Africans are sitting on neglected, non-compliant family trusts that haven’t been updated since the 1980s,” says Morne Janse van Rensburg, Managing Director at Hobbs Sinclair, a firm specialising in trust and company compliance, management and estate planning. “We regularly come across trusts where the original trustees have passed away, crucial documentation is missing, and tax returns haven’t been filed in years. It’s a ticking compliance timebomb.”
The expo will showcase a wide range of local and international manufacturers, suppliers, importers and exporters from various categories, including health, body and beauty, lifestyle, home, food and beverages, and baby and kids.
E.M.S. stands for Electrical Muscle Stimulation. It’s a cutting-edge training method where you wear a special suit that sends safe, low-frequency impulses to your muscles while you exercise.
These impulses mimic your brain’s natural signals, making your muscles contract more deeply and effectively—without putting strain on your joints.
Honours was brutal. Assignments stacked sky-high. Long nights. Endless revisions. But I clung to the opportunity like oxygen. I made it through, scarred, yes, but stronger.
Work with a qualified accountant, labour consultant, or business advisor. You don’t need to know everything, but you do need to know what applies to you.
Running a business without understanding your compliance obligations is like driving with no seatbelt — it might feel fine until you hit a bump.
This message has been echoed at multiple business leadership events and conferences we have recently attended where one truth stood out: leadership is no longer merely a corporate function but rather a societal responsibility.
Then there is the issue of blurred boundaries. When your lounge is your office, it becomes difficult to switch off. Emails creep into dinner time. WhatsApp messages ping long after sunset. Lunch breaks become shorter and harder to protect. Over time, this lack of structure can lead to burnout, a slow but real fatigue that creeps in unnoticed.
“You have to go deeper here,” Kyle said. “Superficial products do not survive. People see through it. You need real connection.”

There’s a lot that can be – and needs to be – done to guide and support young people in South Africa to achieve their goals of bright futures, even in the face of high unemployment.
Her friends and family describe her as loyal, uplifting, and endlessly positive, and it’s easy to see why. Whether she’s closing a deal, helping a client, or just having a coffee with someone new, Anja shows up with her full heart.
“Many people think of trusts as a once-off transaction, but they’re actually living legal structures that require care and maintenance,” says Rouchos. “If you don’t have a clear reason to set one up—and the commitment to maintain it—you may be better off with a different estate planning route.”
Tracy’s advice to all young people facing challenges is to “get involved and reach out”. At university she became a member of the student council, she played sport and found other support available to students. “When you start your studies, throw yourself into the experience. There’s so much support available if you look for it. You don’t have to go through it alone.”
The fact is that on South Africa’s fairly extensive list of scarce skills are geologists, marine biologists, conservation scientists, environmental scientists, environmental engineers, environmental economists, climate change modellers, soil scientists, solar and wind energy specialists and sustainable energy engineers – and this is just a small sample.
With just four months left of the year, I found myself reflecting on the journey so far. I’ve heard many stories, some of incredible success, and others of entrepreneurs who had to close their doors. This year has not been easy for many business owners, especially with the ongoing economic challenges in South Africa.
Johannesburg, Parktown 26 July 2025 – The Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce (JCCI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Caren Sutherns as its new President, following a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday at the Chamber offices.
That’s when the real entrepreneurs rise.
The ones who don’t give up when the numbers aren’t pretty. The ones who get out of their seat, put on their shoes, and go knock on doors. The ones who don’t wait for business to find them — because they know, it won’t.

For many years, the North West has offered one thing that bigger cities can’t: affordability. Families, students, and first-time buyers are starting to realise that they can get more house for their money here. You can still find spacious homes with gardens, in quiet suburbs, for prices that would barely get you a bachelor flat in Sandton.
