In South Africa, companies have a legal obligation to employ disabled people, but there are also moral reasons for companies to make an effort to improve disability inclusion.”
The story begins with a shared vision between Proudly Harties a vision to make everyday life just a little easier for mothers in need. Recognising the challenges faced by women who bring their children to clinics, where seating is scarce and breastfeeding often happens in uncomfortable spaces, they sought out a practical solution.

The fact is that on South Africa’s fairly extensive list of scarce skills are geologists, marine biologists, conservation scientists, environmental scientists, environmental engineers, environmental economists, climate change modellers, soil scientists, solar and wind energy specialists and sustainable energy engineers – and this is just a small sample.
Our facility is designed to offer both comfort and care. Each of our 16 residents has their own private bedroom and en-suite bathroom, allowing them the dignity of personal space while living in a safe, supportive environment. This setup helps residents feel at home, encouraging independence within a caring community.

After finishing my high school years at Hartbeespoort High School, I moved to Japan to complete my grades 10 through 12. By the time I graduated, I felt a strong pull to take a gap year before diving into university. For me, this gap year wasn’t just about taking a break from academics; it was an opportunity to expand my worldview, gain valuable life skills, and immerse myself in experiences that I couldn’t get from a classroom. The Baret Scholars program seemed like the perfect fit.
