Career as Kinesiology

2021 and the Covid Pandemic which has lasted for much longer than anyone anticipated, has heralded major changes globally. From lifestyle and careers to searches for alternative health options and holistic healing, people are finding new and very innovative ways of making a living and working from home.

One such relatively new career is Kinesiology, which is a form of energy healing that is gaining ground and making waves. From its early beginnings in Chiropractic’s in the 1960’s it means “The study of movement”. Kinesiology has evolved into an extraordinary complimentary healthcare modality, one which combines Eastern wisdom with Western techniques. Research pioneers who were specialists in their fields contributed to its huge body of knowledge and so today we find many different streams of kinesiology which can access and assess stress within the body-mind system. Australia is currently considered to be the hub of all the newest innovations in this field.

Studies and training are of a medical nature, so quite intricate and would not suit a person who does not have a keen interest in the medical field.

Kinesiology works with all types of life challenges, from physical to emotional pain and everything in-between. It is excellent for the following areas:

Headaches | Depression | Stress | Insomnia | Addictions | Relationships | Pain | Muscle injury | Emotional problems | Learning and behavioural issues

Kinesiology therapists tap into the client’s electrical systems and use muscle monitoring (muscle testing) as a form of biofeedback and focus on unresolved stress reactions. All cells in the body have cell-memory, much like the rings of a tree that indicate prior damage. Muscle monitoring cannot be controlled by the client, thus enabling the therapist to root out the cause of the problem. Using various techniques, they assist the body in accessing its own natural healing ability. These techniques are known as ‘balancing the energies’, and very soon the client will once again be able to function at optimum level. Applied Kinesiology is a different modality and focusses on muscle strength.

One such a therapist, Gillian O’Shea, is based in Knysna in the Western Cape. Gillian left a highly successful job in the corporate world to become a trendsetter in the field after following her own path of pain and challenges. She offers various massages (kinesiology orientated) consultations, Well-being Programs and Retreats. She is able to do consultations remotely as well, servicing clients as far afield as Beirut, England and The Maldives. Health products are couriered, so distance is not an obstacle.

Her Wellness Programme is a complete and holistic journey to self-love. It is excellent for weight-loss, depression, auto-immune diseases, Lupis and Epstein Barr among many other. Her retreats come in at various prices and offer a wonderful time in the Jewel of the Western Cape, Knysna. The retreats are a collaboration between five practitioners from different fields and includes yoga, farm-to-table cuisine, visits to the Knysna Elephants, whale watching and walking in unspoilt forests and pristine beaches.
